Sabuncubeli Tunnel
The Sabuncubeli Tunnel, which consists of twin tubes and spans a length of 4,070 meters, was inaugurated on June 11, 2018. This tunnel serves as a vital link between Manisa and Izmir.
Constructed using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), the tunnel's entrance portal is located 9.4 kilometers from Bornova, and the exit portal is 12 kilometers from the center of Manisa.
The Sabuncubeli Tunnel has significantly improved the road conditions in a section where 14 low-standard bends, heavy winter ice, and steep slopes up to 9.5% gradient existed. It eliminates these challenging road conditions by reducing the road gradient to 1.5% within the tunnel.
With the tunnel's convenience, it has brought the travel time between Izmir and Manisa down to just 15 minutes, effectively decreasing the travel time on a state road with an average daily traffic volume of nearly 40,000 vehicles.
