DIRECTOR GENERAL GÜLŞEN INSPECTS NORTHERN CYPRUS ROAD INVESTMENTS
The Director General of Highways, Ahmet Gülşen, visited Northern Cyprus to inspect the ongoing road investments conducted by the Turkish Republic of General Directorate of Highways. The program was attended by our Deputy Director General, Ahmet Sağlam, Head of Road Construction Department, Emrah Uslu, Head of Survey, Design, and Environmental Department, Sinan Sezen, and our Infrastructure Development Branch Manager of the Research and Development Department, Muhammet Komut.
The Director General inspected the 4.6-kilometer section of the Nicosia Ring Road, along with transportation routes leading to the Presidential Palace, the Republic Assembly, and the People's Garden, which were tendered earlier this March. Following this, he visited construction sites managed by our Directorate General and reviewed recent completions, including the Nicosia-Famagusta Interchange, Demirhan-Değirmenlik Road, Nicosia Northern Ring Road, Balalan-Yenierenköy Road, İskele-Çayırova Road, and Güzelyurt-Lefke Road, totaling 322 kilometers in length. Additionally, he assessed ongoing traffic safety initiatives.
Director General Gülşen and his accompanying delegation visited Erol Öz, the Coordinator of the Office for Development and Economic Cooperation, to ensure effective coordination for ongoing projects in the KKTC. During the visit, they engaged in discussions regarding the progress of the initiatives and exchanged views.
As progress is made in resolving expropriation issues along the 4.6-kilometer segment of the Lefkoşa Ring Road, the completion of the Girne Interchange will be realized within the scope of the tender. This will enable the ring road to provide integrated services as a whole, alleviating traffic congestion in Gönyeli's connection to Lefkoşa. Additionally, construction will include two cloverleaf interchanges and two modern roundabouts (MDK).
Within the scope of the Northern Cyprus Highway Master Plan, a total of 633 kilometers of main roads, consisting of 198 kilometers of divided highways and 435 kilometers of single roads, with bituminous hot mix (BSK) pavement, have been constructed and opened to traffic between 1988 and 2024, spanning across 18 different road sections..
