Ovit Tunnel
The Ovit Tunnel, located at an altitude of 2,640 meters, is a crucial section of the İkizdere-İspir Road, connecting Rize to Erzurum. It was constructed and opened for service on June 13, 2018.
The Ovit Tunnel, constructed with twin tubes and spanning a length of 14 kilometers, is the third longest road tunnel in the world built with twin tubes.
The Ovit Tunnel, located on the Rize-Erzurum road between Ikizdere and Ispir, ensures a tunnel-like comfort when passing through the Ovit Mountain Pass, which was subject to heavy snowfall and avalanches, causing the road to be closed for 5 months during the winter season. Thanks to the tunnel, the Rize-Ispir-Erzurum road remains open to traffic throughout the year.
The tunnel has also shortened the existing route by 4 kilometers.
